Summer in the city

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Summer weather is finally here, which means we’re ready to spend as much time outside as possible! Chicago is probably the best place to be on earth during the summer months, as the city offers so many warm-weather activities. We’re most excited about the Family Fun Festival that takes place every single day this summer in Millennium Park.

At 10 a.m., instructors from Old Town School of Folk Music’s Wiggleworms program perform, at 11 a.m. there is a family reading session, and then another performance later in the day. Check out the entire line up here. And it’s all free!

Bubbles, bubbles everywhere!

bubbles.jpgToday, I tried out a baby music class at Chicago’s Bubbles Academy. What a treat! The large, soft space was perfect for crawlers to explore, and the teacher kept the babies memorized with song and dance. I learned that by signing up for a full session, you can attend open play every day (how perfect for the cold, winter months!) and join playgroups and other mom-support groups. Check it out!

Wiggle, Wiggle

Today is my daughter’s last Wiggleworms class - an adorable weekly music class held at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. We have been going for the past 16 weeks, and it’s been fun to watch her grow and change during these months. During the first few weeks, she would just stare at the teacher - never, ever changing her expression. Now, she’s a crawling, giggling, clapping, smiling groupie - crawling up to the teacher’s knees to get a better look at her guitar.

There is a Wiggleworms CD available to download, if you can’t make the class. Lots of fun songs sure to inspire your budding musician.
